One Mission, Many Hands

Working for Goodwill is more than a job. It means opportunity with purpose and meaning. It takes many hands to fulfill our mission and every employee makes a difference by contributing his or her unique talents and skills. That’s why we strive to create an atmosphere of mutual trust and respect where individuals can share ideas, solve problems across teams and get the job done together.

Diversity and Inclusion

These are not buzzwords or departments. As a social enterprise, diversity and inclusion are part of the fabric of Goodwill. It all starts with our mission: helping people with disabilities or disadvantages find meaningful employment. Creating a diverse, inclusive atmosphere for our employees flows from our stated mission.

Diversity Means Good Business

We bring together people of different cultures, backgrounds, and life experiences, from our executives to our associates, to inspire creativity and innovation. We look at our differences as our strength. A diverse, inclusive team makes better decisions and sees opportunities instead of problems. Diversity also enables us to create an engaging work atmosphere, where employees can grow and advance. It all adds up to better service to our customers, and success in fulfilling our mission.

Equal Employment Opportunity and Workplace Policies

We are an equal opportunity employer, committed to supporting an inclusive environment. We understand that individual differences enrich our organization, strengthen our services, and help us to attract and retain top talent. All employment actions and decisions are made free from discrimination without regard to race, color, sex, (including pregnancy), age, national origin, ancestry, military service, arrest or conviction record, marital status, citizenship, sexual orientation, disability, protected veteran status, religion, genetics (GINA), gender identity, or any other characteristic protected by law. All qualified applicants will receive consideration for employment without regard to their protected veteran status and will not be discriminated against on the basis of disability. No otherwise qualified applicant for service or program participant shall be excluded from participation, denied benefits or subject to discrimination in any manner based on race, color, national origin, gender, sexual identity, sexual orientation, religion, political beliefs or disability.

We expect all employees and management to support and uphold the principles of equal opportunity and help to prevent workplace discrimination and harassment. Our commitment to diversity is also present in strong workplace policies that support integrity, trust and respect for one another, and prohibit discriminatory practices.

Rooted in the Past, Essential for the Future

Our founder, Reverend Edgar J. Helms, first opened Goodwill’s doors in Boston well over 100 years ago and he believed that everyone, regardless of circumstance, social or economic status, race, disability, or gender, should have a chance in life.

Challenging the accepted business practices of the day, Reverend Helms reached out to men and women considered “unemployable.” He gave them opportunities to mend clothing and other household items, so they could learn a trade while earning a paycheck. While the circumstances and opportunities may have shifted over time, his philosophy remains vital and relevant to this day. A century later, we continue to incorporate his vision into our daily mission.
